Why it is so attractive to overseas buyer?
It is the only trade fair targeting overseas buyers
So it becomes the hub for indigenous Chinese manufacturers and producers to all meet and showcase their latest brands and products to the rest of the world, hoping to sell out their production in wholesale, to foreign buyers and also make good profit; maximizing their returns on cost of production. .
The organizers would by any means to prevent the local visitors from entering the fair.
As a foreigner, maybe you would not notice it is so difficult for a Chinese man or woman to get into the exhibition hall.
By default, Chinese nationals are not allowed to get into the Canton Fair complex, except as an exhibitor, which many companies who do not have the right to attend, would pay up to 20000-30000 US$, just to buy the right from someone else to exhibit in the fair for 5 days.
Most of the time, foreign buyers would find more products which they are looking for.
The other reason why foreign buyers would find more products which they are looking for is: only Chinese companies which are dedicated to the foreign market would bother to attend this fair due to the high cost of registering as an exhibitor.
One of the strange phenomenons at the fair is: you would find the company would give you name cards or brochure which is different from the sign show on the booth. This is because the exhibitors just do not have the right to attend this fair; instead they pay a high price in order to buy the right from others.
Therefore, for those who have the right to exhibit in this fair, unless they are sure they can generate more than RMB200, 000.00 profits out of this show.
Besides, they need to pay for the huge hotel cost. it is all these cost put together, which prevent those who do not have experience to engage in foreign trade, to attend this fair.
So, you may realize that China Import and Export Fair is probably the best trade show for foreign buyers.
And this turns out to be quite significant for many buyers, as they find out it is easier to find the right supplier at this fair.
Suppliers in the fair are always asking for high minimum Order Quantity (MOQ)
Most suppliers at the fair would ask for a very high Minimum Order Quantity (MOQ), say at least one container for each order. This might be frustrating to some buyers, especially the first time buyer at the fair; that intend to buy a few hundreds of some products. The price for one container might be way above their budget
The fact remains that, Those who engage in foreign trade prefer to work on huge orders.
Basically, there are 2 types of factory in China, one is those who cater to local market, the other is those who cater to export market. They are mutually exclusive from each other, with different design, different quality control measures and different sales channel.
How to find those who target overseas market in times other than Canton Fair?
This is not too easy. As there is many wholesale market in China, yet, most of them cater for local consumers, and those who target overseas market just do not show any interest to display their product in such local wholesale market, since they worry their competitor would just copy their design. So, they would just try to attend Canton Fair or one or two other trade fairs in Hong Kong, to introduce their brands and products to overseas market.
If your schedule will not permit you to visit canton fair in April or October and you still want to make huge orders you can visit the local wholesale markets, to see if you can find the goods which meet the standard and specifications you want, with low MOQ and at similar or even lower prices than what you get in Canton Fair.
In general, the best way to find the company which meet the international standard is to type in the particular product name in Chinese, then add any international standard, such as UL or CE.
